The Internet Control Panel (also known as the Web Control Panel) is a significant addition to the control and monitoring of your trueCall unit, which goes above and beyond what is possible using the handset menus alone.

How Do I Get To It?

It requires Internet web browser access (which, if you are reading this, you have!), and is located here:

...or there is a limited version tailored for smart phones here:

What Does It Do For Me?

Above all, the Internet Control Panel provides a visual interface to your trueCall unit rather than having to step through menu settings by listening to spoken prompts and pressing phone buttons. The ICP also has finer control over the configuration options than can be achieved using the handset menus alone.

Star and zap lists can be managed in a spreadsheet-like interface and edited as required, and is the only way to configure wild card star and zap numbers (groups of numbers that all start with the same series of digits; not available to trueCall Classic without the Extra upgrade package). The lists can also be downloaded to PC for safekeeping, and uploaded if required.

The call log can be listed and analysed in various ways, and downloaded to PC. Numbers can be given names to be displayed in the lists, and names that the trueCall can send to your phone for display when that number calls you (the trueCall unit is limited in the number of such names it can store). For some models of trueCall a graphical dashboard is available to analyse where calls are coming from by geographic area and percentage.

    How Does It Work?

The trueCall unit does not have Internet access as such, but incorporates a simple dial-up modem to communicate with the server at the trueCall offices. A "weblink" is a short phone call the trueCall unit makes to contact the server and upload the latest additions to the call logs and settings, and download any changes to the star and zap lists or configuration that have been made at the ICP since the last weblink.

The are several ways to initiate a weblink: the trueCall unit can be set to perform a periodic weblink automatically every so many days, this is done at cheap rate; a weblink can be initiated manually by pressing and holding the button on the trueCall unit for a few seconds; a weblink can be initiated remotely by a handset command from a phone extension or by dialling in from elsewhere and using a handset code. The weblink call may be free if you have an inclusive call package from your phone company.

    Can I Manage Without It?

Many people, particularly those who do not use the Internet as a matter of routine, will be content to use the trueCall as-is. It does, after all is said and done, still provide the core ability to zap and star incoming calls and treat them according to the rules you select. The ICP is for those who desire a greater degree of control, to whom the Internet is likely to be a constant companion.

    What Does It Cost?

Access is free for the first year, after which it is a modest paid subscription (with discounts for longer term subscriptions).

If you are not prepared to pay a subscription after the free year of use, I strongly advise never using the Internet Control Panel at all.

There is a manual for the Internet Control Panel (a bit out of date as I write this) available via the manual list in the FAQs here: http://truecallcommunity.co.uk/threads/faqs-frequently-asked-questions.21/
